So I stumbled across how to make a “gravatar” by accident. You register an account at wordpress.com (you don’t need to assign it to a *.wordpress.com site) and then set it up. Any WordPress site that you comment on with the same email address you use for your wordpress.com account will be assigned your gravatar.
